Welcome to February.

Last year, was perhaps one of the most challenging moments in U.S. history to do theater, but we managed to sell-out all nine performances of The BOX, my play about solitary confinement, in San Raphael, CA.

This year, we’ll be partnering with The Pulitzer Center and taking this new, pandemic-inspired iteration on the road for the End of The Isolation Tour. Our majority formerly-incarcerated cast will perform in outdoor venues where our audiences will be masked and socially distanced.

We have a few announcements.

  1. We’re partnering with Unlock the BOX, a national organization working to end solitary confinement, to select the most strategic cities where our legislative art can help drive local campaigns to the finish line. Our tour bus hits the road in July and hopefully we’re coming to a location near you. The official tour stops haven’t been finalized, but we’re aiming to hit most of the locations on the map below. Fayetteville, SC; St. Louis, MO; Austin, TX; New Orleans, LA; Atlanta, GA; North Carolina; Washington DC; New York City, NY; Pennsylvania; Massachusetts; Portland, ME; Michigan; Chicago, IL; Notre Dame, IN; Santa Barbara, CA
  2. We need your help to get on the road. We’ve already raised $300k and we have until April 1st to raise $100,000 dollars. This will feed our crew of 9, provide salaries for our formerly incarcerated cast, pay for an occasional hot meal and hotel after a string of intense performances and allow us to make a five-part documentary to share with you at the end of our adventure.

We hope you’ll give what you can. Help us knit together these communities and new strength to our movement to end the horror of mass incarceration with true safety through collective care, transformative justice, and hope.

In Community,

Sarah Shourd and the End of Isolation Team
